HALLUX VALGUS

HALLUX VALGUS

Hallux valgus (HV), also known as a bunion, is one of the most common forefoot deformities. HV tends to occur more commonly in women than in men, and occurs more in those who wear tight shoes or heels.
Treatment centers upon first trialing non-surgical approaches such as wider shoes, use of orthotics, and night splinting. If conservative treatment proves ineffective, surgical management is the next recommended course of action.
How can a bunion be prevented?
Avoid ill-fitting shoes, such as ones with pointed-toe boxes.
Try on multiple shoe sizes until you get the best fit, even if you know your size. . Plus, sit and walk in the shoes you’re trying to make sure your toes are pain-free and not pinched.
